The
Mission
of
the
Maine
Chiefs
of
Police
is to
secure
a
closer
official
and
personal
relationship
among
Maine
Police
Officials; to secure a unity of action in law enforcement matters;
to
enhance
the
standards
of
police
personnel,
police
training
and
police
professionalism
generally;
to
devise
ways
and
means
for
equality
of
law
enforcement
throughout
the
state
of
Maine;
To
advance
the
prevention
and
detection
of
crime;
To
prescribe
to
the
Law
Enforcement
Code
of
Ethics;
and
to
promote
the
profession
of
law
enforcement
as an
integral
and
dedicated
force
in
today's
society sworn
the
protection
of
life
and
property.

the
Organization
The
Maine
Chiefs
of
Police
Association
has
350+
members
including
active
&
retired
chiefs,
sheriffs
and
senior
law
enforcement
leaders.
The
association
actively
participates
in
new
training
initiatives,
policy
advancement
and
progressive
law
enforcement
tactics
as
the
lead
association
for
Maine's
Finest.
The
proud
members
stand
together
to
improve
upon
their
relationship
with
the
public
and
become
a
better
prepared
to
protect
the
great
citizens
of
our
rural
state.

2007-2008
President Chief Douglas Bracy
York
Police
Department
Chief Bracy has been a member of the York Police Department for
the past thirty years and has served as its Chief of Police since
1999. Prior to his promotion, he had served as the Lieutenant of
Patrol Operations for five years and as a Patrol Sergeant for seven
years. Chief Bracy began his law enforcement career as a summer
reserve officer for the York Beach Village Corporation in 1974 and
was hired full time upon the consolidation of the beach corporation
with the Town of York in 1977.
Chief
Bracy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Administration and
Management from Columbia Pacific
University and is a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy,
The New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management's Command
School, and the 195th Session of the FBI National Academy. He is a
certified instructor with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and is
a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and
Trainer's Association.
Chief Bracy served as the Secretary of the MCOPA for two years, is
chairman of the Technical Services Committee, and serves as a member
of the Policy and Procedures Committee, and Training and Standards
Committee.
Over the years Chief Bracy has been very active in promoting highway
safety within the MCOPA and throughout the State of Maine serving on
the Governor's Strategic Highway Safety Committee, the state's
Traffic Records Assessment Committee, and participating as a member
of the Maine Safety Transportation Coalition. He was influential in
passage and formation of the new MCOPA Highway Safety Committee to
represent our concerns and commitment to highway safety issues.
Chief Bracy is married with two children and is very active in
community affairs serving numerous committees within the town. He
has been a volunteer fireman for the York Beach Volunteer Fire
Department for 35 years and current serves as the Town's Emergency
Management Director.
